First edition thus, in an edition limited to 1250 copies on japon vellum of which this is copy No. 759, in five volumes (Apocrypha, 238 pp.; Genesis to Ruth, 328 pp.; Samuel to Psalms, 418 pp.; Proverbs to Malachi, 327 pp.; New Testament, 309 pp.). Small folio (32 cm) in modern vellum, gilt titles and decoration in Cambridge style; title pages, head and tail pieces engraved on copper by Stephen Gooden, tissue guards, some pages uncut; typography by Francis Meynell, printed for Nonesuch by Oxford University Press. “Founded in 1922 in London by Francis Meynell, his second wife Vera Mendel, and their mutual friend David Garnett, The Nonesuch Press was established in the basement of Garnett's bookshop in Soho. Nonesuch was unusual among private presses in that it used a small hand press to design books and then had them printed by commercial printers. The Holy Bible was one of its monuments. Meynell was its typographer.” Largely unopened, requires paper knife. Vellum age-toned or sunned, bottom edge abraded (Genesis to Ruth, NT), edges a bit dusty. Better than Very Good.
