Large quarto (26 cm) in blue cloth, titles in paper labels; frontispiece folding map of the Elizabeth Islands, of which Naushon Island is the largest, and part of nearby Martha’s Vineyard; reproduced seventeenth century folding map of New England by William Hack; other maps, photos, illustrations, and views. Amelia Forbes [Emerson], 1888- 1979, the daughter of the sportsman and investor John Malcolm Forbes, married Raymond Emerson, a grandson of Ralph Waldo Emerson and an investment banker. Naushon Island is privately owned by the Forbes family trust which partly explains the writer’s interest in asmall island in Buzzard’s Bay. A tear to a ffep where a seal has been opened to reveal a birthday wish for Arthur Malet. A near Fine copy of a scarce title.
