Octavo (22 cm) in blue publisher’s cloth, gilt titles and decoration; thirty-seven illustrations and a folding map. “An account of the hunting tribes inhabiting the great arid plateau of the Kalahari Desert, their precarious manner of living, their habits, customs & beliefs, with some reference to Bushmen art, both early & of recent date, & to the neighbouring African tribes.” Some of the topics— prehistoric man in the Kalahari, Hottentot and Bushmen languages, divination totemism, paintings and chippings, the cult of the witch-doctor, the Sechuana language. Times review laid down on front endpaper; a near Fine copy of a scarce title (one or two ex-library copies are about).
