Stephenson, Gerald F.
John Stephenson And The Famous ‘Peterborough’ Canoes.
Seller ID: 2290
Peterborough: Peterborough Historical Society, 1987. Occasional Paper 7, first edition (, 20 pp., Bibliography), illustrated with a photo and sketches. The cedar strip canoe came to replace the light birch bark canoe created by North American native people and the lumbering dugouts first used by settlers in the Peterborough region. John Stephenson was an innovative designer of these new boats; a sketch of his patented longitudinal rib canoe is found at the end of this paper and examples of the real thing can be admired at the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Ontario. A fine, clean copy.
