A remark in the Introduction captures the narrative’s point of view, ‘Of the pre-historic period, that is, prior to the arrival of Captain James Cook, on the north-west coast of America, little need be said.’ So, a history of Europeans, British Europeans, in the Northwest emphasizing commercial and social development, loyalty to the Queen Empress, and the like.
