Noted for his contributions to engraving and printing, at first worked in Pop Art and later produced abstract, geometric interpretations of subjects in the natural world. In the 1980’s (as here) he emerged as a landscape artist with a special interest in natural features of the exposed west coast of Scotland and Ireland, and their remote islands. His work is held by many galleries and museums, e.g., the Tate, British Museum, Fogg, National Gallery (Washington, DC), the national galleries of Canada, Norway, Scotland, and South Africa, as well as the Museum of Modern Art.
