Octavo (23 cm) in three-quarter brown morocco over marbled paper, gilt titles and decoration, five raised bands, t.e.g.; illustrated with thirty-two portraits, action scenes, maps and plans. After his service in India, from which he emerged with honours and medals enough to incite the envy of a Soviet field-marshal, Roberts was called upon to lead British forces in the prosecution of the Second Boer War.
