Deakin, H. C.
Portraits of the Dead; to which is added, Miscellaneous Poems.
Seller ID: 1839
London: Smith, Elder, 1831. Second edition (pp. vi, 320). Duodecimo (18 cm) in red half leather over marbled boards, five raised bands, gilt titles to spine; marbled endpapers, ribbon place marker. His book The Deliverance of Switzerland is equally elusive. There is a record of Portraits having been sold along with the contents of a splendid library collected by Peter Hastie and Edward Tracy (1877). One might follow up with an inquiry into the career, however short, of John Wright, Jun., the subject of the last poem," A Monody" and a resident of Lenton Abbey, Notts., who died at Florence in 1828. A rare book by an obscure Romantic poet. Tips worn; otherwise a fine copy.
