Edinburgh: John Ballantyne, Manners and Miller, and Brown and Crombie; London: John Murray, 1810. First edition, in two volumes (pp. xii, 280; viii, 264). Duodecimo (18 cm) in red half leather over marbled boards, five raised bands, gilt titles to spine; marbled endpapers, ribbon place marker. Quite a rare title. One copy only has appeared at auction in the past hundred years. Scott himself acted as advisor to his friend Ballantyne, suggesting inclusions from among the best writers, but also supplying anonymously several of his own compositions in addition to those included under his own name. Cf. Lowndes, Bibliographic Manual and Lockhar. Tips worn; otherwise a fine copy.

Price: $900.00
