Second Volume. N. p. [Ghent], Decembre, 1874. Edited and with contributions from Alfred Cogniaux and Elie Marchal both of the Belgian national botanic gardens. First edition (not paginated, 29 plates). Long folio (35 cm) in brown pebbled cloth with gilt titles to cover and spine, decoration in blind; illustrated by 29 fine full-sized plates all but four being brightly coloured lithographs showing various exotic indoor plants suitable to well-appointed drawing rooms and herbariums of the late nineteenth century. The text (in French) amounts to a brief description of the appearance, growth characteristics, and culture of the plants which include among others the camellia, hydrangea japonica, and croton fugatum. Backstrip and corners skilfully repaired, a few nibbles at the edges. Plates are clean and bright; binding is sound.
