Paris: Chez Plassan, 1792. Copperplate engraving of an aloe plant, sheet (81 cm. x 61 cm.) on fine rag paper. William Paterson (1755-1810), who later had a career as a colonial administrator in Australia, explored the inland plateau of South Africa in search of botanical and other specimens to send back to England. A clean bright image with ample margins; simply mounted on white acid-free mat.
