Eyton, T. C.
A History of the Rarer British Birds [Bound With] A Catalogue of British Birds.
Seller ID: 1147
London: Longman, et al., 1836. First edition (vi [vii], 101; iv, 67, sources), illustrated with 44 wood engravings (Eyton calls them 'woodcuts') in the text, together with a number of tailpieces in the manner of Thomas Bewick by 'Mr. Mark' (a cat steals a distracted angler's catch). Tall octavo (23cm x 15cm) in three-quarter green morocco over complimentary marbled paper, gilt titles to spine, five raised bands, t.e.g. A History captures those rare resident birds and occasional wanderers not included in Bewick's British Birds, such as the Egyptian Vulture. Eyton's catalogue sorts out the nomenclature which, says Eyton, has become tangled as between old and new names. A fine, clean copy with only the slightest edge wear.
