Duodecimo (18 cm) in brown publisher’s cloth, gilt titles and impressed decoration; illustrated with engravings of Cape Town, Chumie, Gwalia, etc. A missionary’s account of the Kaffir War of 1850- 52; claims natives were well-treated by colonists and government; found natives, by contrast, lazy, indolent, improvident. Brown was stationed at Igqibira which eventually was destroyed (for a second time), whereupon Brown removed to Chumie; much interesting matter about it, Fort Hare, Alice, Kat River settlement, etc. Written at Graaf- Reinet. See Mendelssohn (I: 198). A bit dusty; otherwise clean and sound. Scarce, especially in this condition. Very Good.
