Small folio (31cm) in pictorial dust jacket in protective mylar featuring intrepid explorer and unruly dog-team, blue gray cloth, impressed decoration to front cover, gilt titles to spine. "...the rare journals- most of them long out of print- of explorers and adventurers who, for a thousand years, fought through every imaginable peril... to be the first at the North Pole." Excerpts from, among others, the fifth voyage of Bylot and Baffin, Kane's arctic explorations, Hall's life among the Esquimaux are knit together in Mowat's skilful narrative. Top and bottom of dj spine slightly nibbled. Otherwise a fine copy of a handsome book, scarce with Mowat's signature.
