London: John Murray, 1902. First edition, in two volumes (xxxviii, 183; 184- 383). Volume I: Narratives, Glaciers, Natives; Volume II: History, Geography, Resources. Illustrated with 39 colour plates of landscapes, birds, flowers; 85 photogravures of people and places; maps, including folding route map. Large octavo, 26 cm, in dark red cloth ( a little faded), gilt titles and decorations, t.e.g. While this John Murray edition (1902) is two volumes in red rather than green cloth, the edition otherwise would seem to be the same as the first American edition published by Doubleday (1901). And that would be natural enough. It's likely Murray secured the rights to the British edition, received copies of the text that were contracted for in sheets, bound them, and offered them for sale in 1902 'throughout the Empire'. An ex libris copy with the usual markings, but the two volumes appear never to have circulated and are unopened. Clean and bright.
