Barrington, George A Voyage to Botany Bay Together with His Life and Trial and the Sequel to His Voyage
London: the Brummell Press, 1969. Facsimile ([5], 120, 88). Copy No. 180 of an edition limited to 360 copies. Housed in bespoke slipcase in blue cloth and marbled paper. Octavo in dark blue cloth, gilt decoration and titles, red title label; endpapers depicting view of Botany Bay, map of the Colony of New South Wales. George Barrington, according to Alan Walker’s Introduction, was a famous rogue living on the edge of respectable late Georgian society for whom stories of his exploits were a source of titilating entertainment. In fact Barrington likely wrote none of these ‘memoirs’. His name and reputation were attached to fictionalized accounts of life in the far away colony of New South Wales-- stories culled, chopped, and pirated from official reports, proving there is more than one way to pick a pocket. A fine looking copy in like slipcase. Price:
