Small octavo (19cm) in original green publisher’s cloth with impressed and gilt decoration, fancy gilt titles to spine; illustrated with five engravings depicting a variety of indoor plant arragements in the loosely gothic fashion of the time for which the words ‘festooned’ and ‘embowered’ come to mind (and to Johnson’s pen). Quite a complete account of how to raise decorative houseplants (‘a new Eden’) and integrate them with interior design . Top and bottom of spine lightly abraded, uniformly age-toned as usual; a fine, bright copy. A scarce book, especially in this condition.
